Bharat Biotech’s Covid-19 vaccine ‘ Covaxin ‘ has got permission for use on children aged 6 to 12 years. The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) today approved it for limited use in this age group.
DCGI has also given emergency approval to the biological E vaccine ‘ Corbevax ‘ for use on children aged 5 to 12 years.
Both these vaccines have already been approved for use on children above 12 years of age.
Bharat Biotech directed to share safety data of Covaxin
DCGI has also placed certain conditions on Covaxin for use on children.
Bharat Biotech has been asked to share the safety data of the vaccine every 15 days for the first two months. Thereafter, safety data will have to be shared once every month for five months. In this data, information about the side effects of the vaccine will also have to be given.
The vaccine was approved in December for use on children over the age of 12.
Vaccines being administered to children above 12 years of age in the country
Let us inform that at present, the Covid vaccine is being administered to children above the age of 12 years in the country.
This year from January 3, 15 to 18-year- olds are being vaccinated, while from March 16, 12 to 14-year- olds are being vaccinated .
Children 12 to 14 years old are being given Corbevax and 15-18 years old children are being given Covaxin. There is an interval of 28 days between two doses.
Vaccination campaign started on January 16, 2021
Let us inform that India’s vaccination campaign started on January 16, 2021 and in the first phase, health workers were vaccinated. It was opened to frontline workers on 2 February.
The vaccination began on March 1 for the elderly over 60 years of age and those over 45 years of age with serious illnesses, and from the beginning of May , all adults above 18 years of age were covered.
How many doses have been given to which class so far?
So far 1,87,95,76,423 doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country.
Both the doses have been administered to 91.41 crore people above 18 years of age and 80.79 crore people.
5.82 crore children in the age group of 15-18 years have been given the first dose and 4.16 crore have been given the second dose. 2.71 crore children of 12-14 years have received the first dose and 37.27 lakh have received the second dose.
Booster dose has been administered to 2.70 crore beneficiaries.
What is the status of the pandemic in the country?
The daily cases of corona virus have increased in the country in the last few weeks and more than 2,000 new cases are being reported daily for the last seven days.
On the last day, 2,483 new cases were reported. With this, the total number of infected people in the country has gone up to 4,30,62,569. Of these, 5,23,622 people have died.
The number of active cases is 15,636 and a decline has been registered in the last day.
