Apple’s latest iOS 15.4 is currently available to all users. With the new update, the facility to unlock via Face ID even if the mask is worn is available. This update will be of great relief to users who have not been able to use Base ID with the mask for a long time. Otherwise, you would have to put in the password every time. Below is how to unlock Face ID while wearing the mask.
Which devices support Face ID Unlock feature with Mask?
According to Apple, only the iPhone 12 and later will be able to unlock with the Base ID mask. That is, Apple is only available for iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max. Not available for iPhone 11 Series, iPhone XS, and iPhone X. To get this iOS 15.4 feature you first need to update Settings> General> Software.
How to use ‘Face ID with a Mask’?
Once you have iOS 15.4 installed, Apple will prompt you to set up Base ID once again. It will then ask for two options. One, using ‘Face ID with a Mask,’ or without a mask. If you choose the 2nd option, there will be nothing new in it.
If the first option is selected, you will need to re-enter the Base ID. But, then the mask should not be worn. At the same time, if you use Glaze for the eyes, you need to scan the Base ID as you wear it.
Apple will instruct you to unlock the Base ID with the mask again, perhaps if you have scanned Base ID without wearing glasses. ‘Add Glasses’ is a separate feature only.
Face ID scans the entire face accurately. Therefore, when using FaceID, avoid using sunglasses. Because, Apple will also scan the areas around your eyes.
In addition, on processors such as Safari and Apple Pay, Base ID can be used to automatically type the password. With the new update, you can do this as freely as wearing a mask.
