Indian Government Blocks 22 YouTube Based News Channels: Modi Government has ordered to block 22 tube based news channels. Of these, 18 channels are said to be India based and 4 Pakistan based. Apart from these, the government has also given information about the blocking of three accounts of Twitter, one Facebook account and one news website.
The government says that this action has been taken against them for spreading false news and spreading false information on subjects sensitive to national security, foreign relations and public order.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has taken this step by exercising emergency powers under the IT Rules, 2021. An order in this regard was issued by the government on 4 April.
22 YouTube channels have more than 260 million viewership
The 22 YouTube channels which have been blocked by the ministry. His total viewership was more than 260 crores. This is the first time that action has been taken on Indian YouTube news channels since the introduction of IT Rules, 2021 in February last year.
Including these, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued orders to block a total of 78 YouTube-based news channels and many other social media accounts since December 2021.
Is there an allegation of spreading fake information?
According to the government, many YouTube channels were running fake news about Indian forces, Jammu and Kashmir etc. At the same time, anti-India material was also being broadcast from many social media accounts operated from Pakistan. Indian YouTube channels were posting fake news about the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, which could threaten India’s foreign relations.
According to the ministry, Indian YouTube channels were also using photographs of news anchors including templates and logos of some TV news channels to mislead more and more people. In some cases it was found that anti-India news was being spread from Pakistan.
