Ukraine – India, which continues to be neutral on the Russia war issue, has boycotted the UN vote on resolutions against Russia. It has also been reported that Russia has come forward to offer India a discount of $35 per barrel on crude oil.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who is in India amidst the turmoil, met with Union Foreign Minister Jaishankar in New Delhi.
Speaking to reporters following the meeting, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said India was ready to discuss if it wanted to buy anything else from Russia.
Sergei Lavrov said the United States did not want India to import from Russia and that US pressure would not affect India-Russia relations in any way.
The United States, which has repeatedly questioned India’s stance on Ukraine, has also criticized the Russian foreign minister’s visit to India.
The United States has said no one can believe that Russia will come to India’s defense if the border dispute between India and China escalates. The United States has also warned that if China gains more influence than Russia, it will not be to India’s advantage.
