New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Tamil Nadu Finance Minister P.T.R. Palanivel Thiagarajan met today in Delhi. Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as the GST Council meeting is scheduled to be held at the end of this month.
Tamil Nadu Finance and Human Resource Development Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at the Finance Ministry office in North Block, Delhi. Union Finance Secretary TV Somanathan and Tamil Nadu Additional Chief Secretary Muruganantham were present at the time.
The date of the GST Council Committee meeting to be held in Madurai at the end of this month, progress measures, etc. were discussed.
Also during this meeting, he insisted that the GST tax on essential goods should be withdrawn and the pending central government funds should be provided to Tamil Nadu as soon as possible. It is to be noted that all the State Finance Ministers are expected to participate in the GST Council Committee meeting to be held for the first time in Tamil Nadu.
The 48th meeting of GST will be held in Madurai on the invitation of the Finance Minister of Tamil Nadu, Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in the closing ceremony of the meeting on June 29. Nirmala Sitharaman also said that GST levy on casinos, online gaming and horse racing will be discussed in this meeting.
