People are often not convinced about the purity of gold jewellery. The government has implemented the system of hallmarking to protect people from being cheated. It is now mandatory to sell jewellery hallmarked jewellery. Despite this, people do not believe that the jewelery they have bought is true.
To overcome this difficulty of the people, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has created a smartphone application. The name of this app of BIS is ‘BIS Care App’. This app lets you know the purity of hallmarked jewellery, instantly. Before knowing how to use it, we have to understand a few things.
The government had changed the hallmarking sign of gold jewelery with effect from July 1 last year. Earlier hallmark jewelery used to have four to five signs. Now there are only three signs. The first sign is the BIS hallmark. The second sign tells about purity. The third symbol is a six-digit alphanumeric code. This is called the HUID number.
HUID stands for Hallmark Unique Identification Number. This six-digit code consists of letters and digits. At the time of hallmarking, a HUID number is allotted to each jewellery. This number is unique. This means that there cannot be two jewelery with the same HUID number.
To use the BIS Care app, first you need to download it on your smartphone. After downloading you have to open it. Then, enter your name, phone number and email id in it. Then, your mobile number and email id will be verified through OTT. You can use this app after the verification is complete.
The feature of ‘Verify HUID’ has been given in the BIS Care app. With the help of this feature, you can check the purity of your hallmarked jewellery. You can also check the branded products by going to the Licensing Detail section. You can also register your complaint with the help of this app. For this you have to take help of Complaints feature of this app. If you have purchased any hallmark jewelery and you are not satisfied with its quality then you can complain here.
