White: The color of breast milk of most women is off-white and cream. But its color can also be clear. This happens when mother milk starts coming out of the breast. At the time of 2 weeks of delivery, mother milk starts coming out of the breast.
It is called hindmilk when the amount of fat in the milk increases while breastfeeding. Due to the increase in fat in milk, its color can become thick white or yellowish.
Orange and Yellow: Women often get very scared when the milk of orange and yellow color comes out of the breast, but let us tell you that there is nothing to be afraid of. Orange milk is usually made during colostrum, it is the first breast milk. It usually appear orange because it contains high amounts of beta-carotene.
Beta-carotene is a plant pigment commonly found in carrots, sweet potatoes and different types of capsicum. Orange milk comes out in very less quantity. The fluid that your breasts produce in the first few days after birth is called colostrum.
Blue: Blue colored milk coming out of the breast is also quite common but it does not mean that your baby cannot drink it. This milk is thin and contains less fat and more electrolytes.
Green: Whatever you eat also affects your breast milk. When you consume green colored vegetables, due to this the color of your breast milk appears green. So there is no need for you to panic for this.
Pink or red: The color of breast milk can also change by consuming foods which are pink or red in color. When you consume beetroot, orange juice or red colored fruits, then the color of breast milk also changes.
Brown: Brown milk comes out from the breast for a few days after giving birth, so there is no need to panic about it. This milk is absolutely safe for your baby. Sometimes blood from inside the breasts can also come into the milk tubes. Even the color of milk can be seen as brown. The appearance of light blood in milk is not dangerous, it gets cured on its own in a few days. But if it does not get better even for several days, then definitely see your doctor.
Black: Sometimes the color of your milk can appear black due to the consumption of some medicines. This happens when you are taking antibiotics. The antibiotic Medicine also causes darkening of the skin and breastfeeding women are advised not to use it. If you are lactating and you need to take medicine then you should always inform your doctor about it first.
