6 Airbags Mandatory for All New Cars from October 1

The Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in Parliament says The new rule will apply to all vehicles manufactured from October 1.

New Delhi: A new rule is to come into force that all car models sold in the Indian automobile market must be provided with six airbags.

The announcement was made by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in Parliament. The new rule will apply to all vehicles manufactured from October 1.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that if the cars had been given proper airbags, about 13 thousand 022 lives could have been saved by 2020 alone. Earlier in January, the Union Ministry had ordered that six airbags be guaranteed in vehicles carrying up to eight people.

This order applies to M1 class vehicles with a capacity of up to eight passengers and models weighing less than 3.5 tons. Vehicles manufactured from October 1 will be required to have two airbags and two curtain airbags fitted on the front. Vehicles that can carry up to eight people including the driver’s seat are referred to as belonging to the M1 category.

This segment includes entry-level hatchback models such as the Suzuki Alto and Hyundai Santro starting with the MUV called Multi-Utility. Models represent everything, including the Toyota Innova or the Kia Carnival.

Such vehicles are often used for personal use only. Only a few models are being used as rental taxis.

Already in the Indian market car manufacturers are constantly increasing the prices of their vehicles. In this case, there can be no doubt that the price of car models will increase further due to the new regulation.

The front airbags in the regular entry level car models are priced at just Starting at Rs.5,000 and up to a maximum of Up to Rs.10,000 is fixed. Curtain airbag price up to Costs up to Rs.20,000.

Currently a maximum of six airbags are offered in the top models of cars sold in the Indian market. These are priced at Starting from Rs.10 lakhs.

A minimum of Experts have reported that it can cost up to Rs.25,000.

Due to the fact that there is no compulsion to become a supplier, the car manufacturers offer such features only in the top end models and price it at Rs.1.20 lakh in addition.
