The Special Branch of Delhi Police on Monday arrested Mohammad Zubair, co-founder of fact-checking platform Alt News.
This action has been taken against him for promoting communal enmity and hurting religious sentiments. The police team is currently interrogating him.
Let us tell you that Zubair often gets involved in controversies regarding his fact check, but for the first time the police have taken the action of arrest.
Police has registered a case under these sections
According to the report of news agency ANI , Zubair has been booked by the Delhi Police under sections 153 (incitement with intent to cause riot) and 295 A (intentionally or maliciously to hurt the religious feelings of any particular class) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Arrested in the registered case.
He is accused of spreading communal unrest through his post on Twitter . The police have also got evidence against them.
Delhi Police had summoned Zubair in a separate case
According to NDTV , Alt News co-founder Prateek Sinha told that the Delhi Police on Monday summoned Zubair for questioning in a separate case, but later arrested him for hurting religious sentiments.
They allege that the police did not give the mandatory notice for Zubair’s arrest. He tweeted, ‘Despite repeated requests, we are not being given the copy of the FIR.’
In which case did the police summon?
Sinha tweeted a note and wrote, ‘Zubair was called today by the Special Cell of Delhi for investigation in a case of 2020, for which he was already protected from arrest by the High Court.’
He further wrote, ‘Around 06:45 pm we were informed that he has been arrested in another case for which no notice was given. Notice is mandatory for arrest under these sections.
The matter was related to POCSO Act
Let us inform that the police had called Zubair in the case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act of August 2020. He was accused of making abusive words and quarreling by calling a Twitter user.
Arrested on the basis of sufficient evidence- DCP
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner (DCP) of Delhi Police KPS Malhotra has said that Zubair has been arrested on the basis of sufficient evidence against him in the case. The present case has been registered at the Special Branch Police Station.
He said that Zubair would soon be produced before the Patiala House Court and his remand would be sought for further investigation. After that other evidence related to the case will be collected.
Current case registered against Lord Hanuman regarding tweet
According to Delhi Police officials, the present case was registered based on a complaint by Twitter user Hanuman Bhakt (@balajikijaiin) over an alleged tweet against Lord Hanuman of Zubair.
Posting a picture of the hotel signboard, Zubair wrote, “Before 2014: Honeymoon Hotel and Post 2014 Hanuman Hotel.” On this, the user had filed a case of hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus.
