Delhi Water Crisis facing water shortage amid scorching heat, water supply will be affected in these areas from today

Water supply will be affected in many areas of Delhi from Todayi.e. Tuesday morning (May 17) due to the decrease in water level in Wazirabad, Chandrawal and Okhla ponds of Delhi.

Delhi Water Crisis: Amidst the scorching heat in the country’s capital Delhi, a water crisis has also arisen in front of the people. Water supply will remain affected in many areas of Delhi from today i.e. Tuesday morning (May 17) due to receding of water level in Wazirabad, Chandrawal and Okhla ponds of Delhi.

This information has been given in a notification issued by the Delhi Jal Board. It said that water production from water treatment plants at Wazirabad, Chandrawal and Okhla has been affected due to reduction in water release by Haryana into Yamuna river till the level of Yamuna pond at Wazirabad Water Works falls below normal level.

The statement further said that the water supply will remain affected from the morning of May 17 and till the level of the pond becomes normal. In such a situation, people are advised to store sufficient amount of water. Water tank should also be provided as per demand.

The water level at Wazirabad Water Works has come down to 670.70 feet, which is the lowest level this year. On July 11 last year, the level of the works had reduced to 667 feet, following which the Delhi Jal Board had moved the Supreme Court urging it to direct the Haryana government to release excess water into the Yamuna.

A Delhi Jal Board official said the production capacity of Wazirabad, Chandrawal and Okhla water treatment plants has come down to 85 per cent. The Delhi Jal Board has arranged for additional tankers in those areas where there is a shortage of water. It is also trying to increase the supply of water through tube wells.
