Shiv Sena ‘s rebel leader Eknath Shinde has said that he will return to Mumbai soon. Speaking to the media for the first time after reaching Guwahati in Assam, Shinde said, “I have 50 people (MLAs) in Guwahati with me. They have come on their own and for Hindutva. We will all go to Mumbai soon.”

He said that he will carry forward the legacy of Balasaheb Thackeray. Amidst this announcement by Shinde, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has called a cabinet meeting today.

Shinde is staying in Guwahati with over 40 Shiv Sena MLAs

Shinde, who rebelled against Shiv Sena chief and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray , is currently staying at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati, Assam. Shiv Sena has more than 40 MLAs with him.

Due to his rebellion, the coalition government of Maharashtra’s Shiv Sena, Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is in trouble and is in danger of collapsing. If the Shinde camp withdraws support, the government will be reduced to a minority.

Shinde contemplating to bring a no-confidence motion against Thackeray government

According to media reports, Shinde is considering coming to Mumbai to bring a no-confidence motion against the Thackeray government. However, he has not yet sent a letter of withdrawal of support to Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and has not reached any final conclusion. He has discussed with the lawyers in this regard.

If sources in NDTV are to be believed, the governor may take suo motu cognizance of the matter and ask Thackeray to prove his majority this week.

Thackeray may challenge in court the attempt to conduct majority test

Amidst these speculations, Uddhav Thackeray may also discuss with his legal advisors the option of challenging any attempt to conduct a majority test in court. He has also asked the rebel MLAs who are in contact to come back.

BJP’s instructions to its MLAs to live in or near Mumbai

The BJP has also geared up for the floor test and has asked all its MLAs to stay in or near Mumbai so that everyone can be available for voting when the no-confidence motion is moved.

Sources told India Today that the BJP is ready to form the government with the Shinde faction if Thackeray’s government falls.

Former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also gone to Delhi today where he will discuss the matter with Home Minister Amit Shah.

What are the equations in the assembly?

The strength of the 288-member Maharashtra Legislative Assembly is currently 285. The majority figure is 143.

Till now the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance had the support of 151 MLAs. With Shinde claiming the support of 40 Shiv Sena MLAs, the alliance is left with only 111 MLAs.

In such a situation, the Thackeray government will fall after the majority test. However, the path of Shinde camp is also not easy and they may have to lose their membership.

The matter reached the Supreme Court, notice to the Deputy Speaker

This political crisis of Maharashtra has also reached the Supreme Court and the rebel MLAs of Shinde faction have filed a petition to stop the action against them.

Till then the membership of the rebel MLAs will not be cancelled.
