After a long political tussle, Eknath Shinde took oath as the new Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Along with him, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis also took oath as the Deputy CM. On Thursday evening, Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari administered the oath of office and secrecy to both the leaders.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis. He tweeted,”I would like to congratulate Eknath Shinde ji on being sworn in as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. In fact, in a week-long political tussle in Maharashtra, a shocking turn came on Thursday when Devendra Fadnavis announced the name of Shiv Sena’s rebel leader Eknath Shinde for the post of Chief Minister. However, earlier speculations were being made that Fadnavis would be the next chief minister in the new government and Shinde his deputy.
However, while announcing the name of Eknath Shinde, Devendra Fadnavis had said that he would stay out of this government. He said,”I will be out ofthis government, but my full support will be with them.”
When the twist came in the story
Shortly after this, another twist came in the story and BJP National President JP Nadda said that Fadnavis has been directed by the BJP leadership to make him Deputy CM.
Nadda tweeted,”BJP has decided to support Eknath Shinde with a big heart for the betterment of the people of Maharashtra. Devendra Fadnavis has alsodecided to join the cabinet with a big heart. Shows his affection towards the public.”
Earlier today, while addressing the media, Fadnavis said,”Eknath Shinde will be the chief minister. BJP will support. We will expand the cabinet soon. Today at 7.30 pm Eknath Shinde will take oath as the CM of Maharashtra. He said that Shiv Sena ( rebels), as well as BJP MLAs and some independents, will also take oath as ministers during the expansion.
Shinde, MLA from Kopri-Panchpakhadi in Thane city, was also present in this joint press conference. The two leaders addressed the media after meetingGovernor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at Raj Bhavan and staked claim to form the government.
Addressing the media, Shinde lauded Fadnavis for his “big heart” and thanked him for announcing his name for the post of CM.
