Floods hit Assam Death toll rises to 26, affecting 5.80 lakh people

The flood situation in Assam is reported to be improving significantly.

Guwahati: The northeastern state of Assam has been hit hard by heavy rains and floods. Twenty-two districts have been inundated by heavy rains for more than a week.

The tributaries of the Brahmaputra, the Koppili and the Kampur, are at high risk of flooding. Meanwhile, Army, paramilitary and national and state disaster relief teams have been deployed in the flood-hit areas and intensive rescue operations are underway.

In this situation, the flood situation in the state of Assam is reported to be significantly improving. More than 6.5 lakh people have been affected by the floods in 22 districts till last Saturday.
