Kerala Red alert to Idukki and Ernakulam prone to extremely heavy rains

The Kerala Meteorological Department has advised fishermen not to go to sea as winds of 40 to 50 kmph are expected off the coast of Kerala.

Trivandrum: A red alert has been issued for heavy rains in Ernakulam and Idukki districts of Kerala today. Also, an orange warning has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Thrissur till the 16th.

Similarly, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts have been warned of heavy rains till the 16th.

Red Alert is a forecast for heavy to very heavy rainfall of more than 20 cm in 24 hours.

An orange alert indicates heavy rainfall of 6 cm to 20 cm. Yellow alert is issued for heavy rainfall of 6 to 11 cm.
