Lt Gen BS Raju has been made the new Deputy Chief of the Indian Army . He will take over the post on May 1. He is currently serving as the Director General of Military Operations.
He will replace the current Lieutenant General Manoj Pandey. Lt Gen Pandey has been appointed as the next Army Chief of the country on 18 April itself .
He will replace General Manoj Mukund Naravane who is retiring on April 30.
Lt Gen Raju comes from Davangere district of Karnataka
The full name of Lt Gen BS Raju is Baggavali Somashekar Raju. He was born on October 19, 1963 in Davangere district of Karnataka.
After completing his initial studies from Sainik School in Bijapur, he passed the examination and reached the National Defense Academy (NDA) in Pune .
Apart from this, he has also done his graduation from Royal College of Defense Studies, UK and Post-Graduation in Counter Terrorism from Naval Post-Graduate School in California, USA.
Lt Gen Raju has served in many important posts
Lt Gen Raju started his 38-year military career by joining the Jat Regiment in 1984. He has served in many important positions in his journey.
After the terrorist attack on Parliament in December 2001, he led his battalion in ‘Operation Parakram’ to attack Pakistan.
Apart from this, he has also led the Uri Brigade near the Line of Control (LoC).
Lt Raju has served five times in Jammu and Kashmir
It would not be wrong if Lt Gen Raju is called an expert in Jammu and Kashmir and he has served here five times.
During his deployment in Kashmir, he conducted many humanitarian campaigns to improve the image of the army. He used to meet the local children regularly.
He also gave a chance to the youth to leave the path of terror and lead a normal life and brought many misguided youth into the mainstream.
Terrorism decreased during his tenure.
Lt Gen Raju has been awarded many medals
Lt Gen Raju has been awarded several medals for his distinguished services. He has been awarded the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (UYSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), Yudh Seva Medal (YSM) and Vishisht Seva Medal.
Lt Gen Raju is also a good pilot and has done Operation Flying in Somalia.
All the senior officers of the army, including the current army chief Naravane, have congratulated him for becoming the deputy chief.
Just a few days ago, Lt Gen Manoj Pandey was appointed as the new Army Chief.
Let us inform that about 10 days ago, on 18 April itself, the current Lieutenant General Manoj Pandey was appointed as the next Chief of the Indian Army . He will replace General MM Naravane as the 29th Chief of the Army Staff .
General Pandey is passed out from NDA. He was inducted into the Corps of Engineers in the year 1982.
He is the first engineer to become the Chief of Army Staff.
