Maharashtra Govt Cuts VAT on Petrol and Diesel

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has been asking state governments to reduce VAT on petroleum products and provide relief to the public.

Mumbai: The central government yesterday announced a reduction in excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per liter and excise duty on diesel by Rs 6 per liter to provide relief to the people from the hike in petrol and diesel prices.

Meanwhile, the first state government to reduce VAT on petrol by Rs 2.41 per liter and diesel by Rs 1.36 per liter has been announced.

Following the states of Kerala and Rajasthan, the Maharashtra government has announced a reduction in VAT on petrol.
