Mumbai: Municipal elections stalled due to Corona epidemic will be held soon. The apex court had directed the state government to announce the election program within two weeks. Therefore, the state government held a meeting with the Election Commission.
The Election Commission has issued important orders in this regard today. The Election Commission has given a deadline to the Municipal Corporation to announce the election program.
May 11 – Completion of final ward formation work
May 12: Ward formation final proposal should be sent to State Election Commission for approval
May 17 – Final ward composition should be published
May 17: State Election Commission directs to publish final ward composition list in Government Gazette.
The Election Commission has sent letters to Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Nagpur, Amravati, Navi Mumbai, Vasai, Virar, Ulhasnagar, Kolhapur, Akola, Solapur, Nashik, Pipanri Chinchwad and Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporations.
The State Election Commission has entered into action mode following the Supreme Court order. These elections will be held without OBC reservation as the state government has not submitted triple test and imperial data. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for June 12.
