Mohd Zubair lawyer accuses the police, says – Leaked in the media even before the court’s decision came

Mohammad Zubair's lawyer Soutik Banerjee said that the debate took place till lunch and the judge reserved the verdict. The judge has not come after lunch yet. But I am shocked to see that DCP KPS Malhotra leaked in media

The counsel for Alt News cofounder Mohammad Zubair has alleged that the Delhi Police leaked the order to the media even before the court order came. The court rejected the journalist’s bail plea and has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days.

Mohd Zubair’s lawyer Soutik Banerjee said,”The debate went on till lunch and the judge reserved the verdict. The judge has not come after lunch yet. But I am shocked to see that DCP KPS Malhotra leaked to the media. That our bail plea has been rejected and 14 days judicial custody has been given.”

Banerjee said, “Very condemnable and speaks of the state of rule of law in our country today that even before the judicial magistrate sits down and pronounces the order, the police have leaked the order to the media. How does KPS Malhotra know what the order is?It is an issue of introspection.”

However, Delhi Police’s DCP KPS Malhotra says that he wrongly informed the media that AltNews’s Mohammad Zubair has been sent to 14-day judicial custody.

Earlier, Delhi’s Patiala court had reserved its verdict on the bail plea of Mohammad Zubair, cofounder of fact check website Alt News. The 33-year-old journalist was arrested over a 2018 tweet after he was accused of hurting religious sentiments.
