SPG officials selected two puppies for selection in April

In April this year, SPG officials visited the Canine Research and Information Center (CRIC) at Thimmapur in Bagalkot district of Karnataka. He showed interest in the Mudhol Hound breed and raised two puppies for training.

His selection was later confirmed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ‘s security team after considering the vitality of the Rajapalayam dog breed from Tamil Nadu and the Rampur Greyhound from Uttar Pradesh .

What are the characteristics of Mudhol Hound?

The breed got its name from the kingdom of Mudhol. These dogs weigh between 20 and 22 kilograms and can grow up to 72 centimeters long. They have a slim physical appearance and long legs.

The Mudhol Hound is considered to be one of the most hunter-gatherer, loyal and healthy species. His jaw is very strong. This exotic breed grows much faster than the German Shepherd.

How did Mudhol Hound get started?

The Mudhol Hound has been recognized by the Indian National Kennel Club, a registry of purebred dogs in the country. It is believed that Mudhol Hounds were first bred by King Malojirao Ghorpade of the Deccan Kingdom of Mudhol.

He also presented these dogs to King George V on a visit to England , after whom the breed got its name. Once these dogs catch the prey, they do not leave.

Training to join indian army

These dogs can see things from a distance, which makes them very alert. He was first trained in 2016, with the Remount Veterinary Corps (RVC) training him to sniff explosives. The National Security Guard (NSG) is also training them to keep an eye on enemy movements along the border. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will also induct them into its canine force.

PM Modi mentioned in Mann Ki Baat

The Mudhol Hound breed was first mentioned by Prime Minister Modi at a rally in Jamkhandi in Karnataka’s Bagalkot district in 2018. He had said, “Mudhol breed dogs are going out with the new battalion to defend the country.” During the Mann Ki Baat address, he said, “Among the Indian breeds, the Mudhol Hound and the Himachali Hound are of excellent pedigree.” He said that keeping dogs of this breed at home would encourage the Indian breed.
