The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Enforcement Directorate have been raiding the offices of Islamic organizations including the Popular Front of India in India since this morning. In this regard, NIA officials said, “We have conducted a nationwide search operation in places where people are accused of supporting groups and terrorists, including the Popular Front of India.
We are conducting raids at the house of BFI chief OMA Salam in Manjeri, Malappuram, Kerala and BFI offices in 10 states. These raids are conducted across India at the residences and official premises of individuals accused of sponsoring terrorism, organizing training camps and inciting people to join banned organisations.
In Tamil Nadu, NIA officials are conducting raids in 16 places including Chennai, Chengalpattu, Trichy, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar, Dindigul, Kanyakumari, Nagercoil, Coimbatore, Cuddalore, Ramanathapuram, Theni, Thenkasi. National Intelligence Agency officials arrested Yasser Arafat from Gampam area, Madurai regional secretary of the I organization, after investigation.It is reported that up to 100 people have been detained in raids in more than 10 states across the country.
Meanwhile, in a statement issued by Popular Brands of India, “We strongly oppose the fascist regime’s actions of using agencies to suppress dissenting voices,” PFI members are protesting against the central government’s NIA raids against Islamic organizations.
