Sidhu Moose Wala hails from Mooswala village in Mansa district of Punjab. He was also known as Subdeep Singh Sidhu. He graduated with a degree in electrical engineering and went to Canada to study music during his college days. His songs are often controversial.
Controversy arose over his release of the 2019 song Jatti Gionee More The Banduk Warkey, which badly portrayed the 18th-century Sikh warrior Mai Pago. He subsequently apologized for it.
He was involved not only in music but also in politics. He joined the Congress last December and contested for the party in Mansa constituency in this year’s Punjab Assembly elections. However, he lost to the Aam Aadmi Party candidate by a margin of 63,000 votes.
It was in this context that he released the song Bali Aadu last month. In it, he harshly criticized the Aam Aadmi Party and its supporters, calling him a traitor.
The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab yesterday withdrew security from 424 people, including Mooswala. The incident in which Sidhu Mooswala was killed the next day came as a shock.
Under the circumstances, Sidhu was shot dead by unidentified persons while traveling in a car in Mansa district today. He and 3 others who were with him were seriously injured.
Police rushed to the spot and admitted the injured to the hospital. But doctors said they were already dead. The incident in which a famous singer was shot dead in broad daylight has caused a stir and shock in the state.
Also, Randeep Singh Surjewala of the Congress party has condoled his death. He said on his Twitter page, “I was shocked to learn that Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead in broad daylight.
Punjabis all over the world have lost the artist who felt the pulse of the people and connected with the people. I offer my deepest condolences to his fans. ” It is noteworthy that the Punjab government yesterday withdrew the protection given to singer Sidhu.
