Smriti Irani denies liquor shop in daughter’s name in Goa

Union Minister Smithi Irani has categorically denied the allegation of running an illegal bar in Goa in her daughter's name.

New Delhi: A Silly Souls Cafe and Bar restaurant owned by Union Minister Smriti Irani’s family in Goa has been involved in a scam.

Silly Souls Cafe and Bar Goa is a restaurant run by Union Minister Smriti Irani’s family in Assagao, Goa. It is said to be directed by Smriti’s daughter Joish Irani. The restaurant is currently mired in controversy. It is said that drinking rights for the restaurant were acquired in the name of the deceased.

According to Goa State Excise Rules, only an existing restaurant can get a liquor or bar license. But the newly launched Silly Souls Cafe and Bar is yet to get a restaurant license. A bar is run in it. The restaurant’s liquor license is in the name of Anthony.

And it is said to have been updated only last month. However, the person named on the license, Anthony, passed away in May 2021. This Anthony is a resident of Vile Parle, Mumbai. The Mumbai Municipal Corporation has confirmed his death and issued a death certificate.

Attorney Rodriguez exposed the fraud through the Freedom of Information Act. Advocate Rodrigues has filed a case seeking a thorough probe into the mega-scam by Union Minister Smriti Irani’s family in consultation with industry officials and local panchayats. The hearing of this case is scheduled to come up on the 29th.

Despite the controversy being raised by lawyer Rodrigues, it has been reported that the Goa government’s arts department has sent a message about the show to the restaurant.

In this regard Union Minister Smriti Irani said in a press conference:

This is being done at the behest of the Congress leadership. The allegation that my daughter is running an illegal liquor shop is false. “It is not only an assassination of his character, but also an act of political vilification of me,” he said.

His 18-year-old daughter has denied allegations of running an illegal liquor shop in Goa.
