New Delhi: The Election Commission has announced that the election to elect the next Vice President of India will be held on August 6. The Election Commission added that the counting of votes would take place on the same day.
The Election Commission has set July 17 as the deadline for filing nominations for the 2022 Vice Presidential election.
Members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, including nominees, will vote in the Vice Presidential election. Venkaiah Naidu’s term as Vice President ends on August 10.
With the term of President Ram Nath Kovind coming to an end on July 24, the election to elect the country’s new president is set to take place on July 18. The votes will be counted on the 21st. Candidature for the post started on the 15th and ends on the 29th.
Former Jharkhand Governor Draupadi Murmu is contesting the presidential election on behalf of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance. Yashwant Sinha is contesting as the common candidate on behalf of the Opposition.
