New Delhi: The National Intelligence Agency (NIA) on Wednesday sentenced Jammu and Kashmir separatist leader Yasin Malik to life imprisonment for funding terrorists.
An NIA court sentenced Malik to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on him.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment twice (once for waging war against the nation and once for raising funds for terrorism under UAPA Section 17).
The NIA had on May 19 demanded death penalty for the convicted separatist leader.
Malik told the court on May 10 that he did not contest the charges against him, including sections 16 (terrorist activity), 17 (raising funds for terrorists), 18 (conspiracy to commit acts of terrorism) and 20 (existence). Members of UAPA terrorist gang or organization and IPC sections 120-B (conspiracy to commit offence) and 124-A (sedition).
