Muslim organizations have called for a complete Bandh against a Karnataka court ruling banning the wearing of the hijab.
Muslim organizations today (Thursday) called for a complete shutdown in Karnataka in protest of a Karnataka High Court ruling banning the wearing of the hijab.
The Karnataka government has banned Muslim students from wearing hijab to attend class at the Kundapura Government PU College in Udupi district. Muslim students have filed writ petitions in the Karnataka High Court challenging the order.
The high court dismissed the petitions and ruled that the order issued by the Karnataka government banning Muslim students from wearing the hijab in class would go through. Muslim organizations have strongly objected to the ruling. The verdict has been appealed to the Supreme Court.
The Karnataka High Court has ruled that wearing the hijab is not essential in Islam. This has caused us great pain. Against this, Muslim organizations have decided to hold a full Bandh tomorrow (today).
In turn Muslim organizations across the state will fight in a peaceful way. All sections of the Muslim community must take part in this whole blockade struggle. This should make the rulers realize that they can win this struggle and get an education by wearing hijab. Shops should not be forced to close.
