Mangaluru: Praveen Netter (32), a BJP youth member of Karnataka, was murdered a few days ago. This has created excitement and tension in the state. Karnataka police have arrested two persons named Saheer and Mohammad Safiq in this connection. Within two days of this incident, a 23-year-old Muslim youth was murdered in Surathkal area of Mangalore district. A young Muslim named Basil was severely assaulted by 3-4 unidentified youths last night. This further increased the tension there.
Mangalore City Police Commissioner Sasikumar told reporters, “At around 8 pm, some miscreants attacked Basil severely with deadly weapons. He was immediately taken to the hospital. But doctors declared him dead. This is the most disturbing part. Therefore 144 Prohibitory Order has been issued there.
A person who accompanied the murdered Basil witnessed the incident. We have received a complaint from him. We are investigating who killed him and what was their inner motive.
I request people not to spread wrong information regarding this incident. Today we have ordered to close all liquor shops in Mangalore. As there is a possibility of law and order problem, we have asked the Muslim leaders to pray from home. A prompt investigation will be conducted and appropriate action will be taken.” said.
