Indian Railways has suffered huge losses due to the agitation against the Agneepath scheme. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told Parliament on Friday that the agitation has caused a loss of Rs 259.44 crore to the Railways.
He also said that due to the nationwide protests against the Agneepath scheme, more than 2,000 trains were canceled between June 15 and June 23. Vaishnav gave this information in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha.
He said that 2,132 trains were canceled between June 15 and June 23 due to protests across the country against the Agneepath scheme. Vaishnav also said that no separate data is maintained about the amount refunded to passengers due to disruption of train services due to public disorder as a result of opposition to the Agneepath scheme for recruitment in armed forces.
