Chennai: According to the Minister of Civil Aviation with the increase in passenger air services at Chennai Airport, there is a need to set up a second airport.
The site for the construction of the 2nd airport was chosen to avoid problems in dealing with the airline over the next few years.
The Central Aviation Authority (CAA) has written to the Tamil Nadu government asking it to select a suitable location for the airport, which will be able to handle more aircraft than the existing one.
Following that, the government has mentioned to set up 2nd airport at 4 places including Pannur, Parandur and Tiruvallur. The Central Aviation Authority has decided to inspect the site for setting up airports at Pannur, Paranthur.
Are these 2 places likely to operate flights and provide the necessary facilities for passengers? The commission is to study the quality of the soil and the environment.
According to Union Aviation Minister Jyotir Aditya Scindia, the Air Transport Authority of India has identified two new airports at Pannur, Paranthur. There are enough places to start air service there, the natural environment is located there. But are those 2 places the ideal place to fly? As said to be examined.
Officials of the Airports Authority of India of the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation are to meet once again to discuss this matter. Officials said the study would then be finalized.
Based on this, a study is to be conducted at these 2 places to set up a second airport soon.
