The first Twenty20 match between India and Sri Lanka was played in Lucknow today. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl Batting first, India scored 199 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. Ishan Kishan hit 89 off 56 balls with 10 fours and 3 sixes. Rohit Sharma scored 44 and Shreyas Iyer 57 not out.
Following this, the Sri Lankan team set out for the difficult target of 200 runs to win, stumbled in the beginning of the Indian bowling could not cope. Starter Nissanka left without taking any runs. The wickets then fell at regular intervals.
Having lost 5 wickets for 60 runs, the struggling Asalanga gave comfort by crossing the half-century mark. However, the Sri Lankan team could not reach the goal.
Sri Lanka added 137 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. Asalanga was unbeaten on 53 and Sameera on 24. India won by 62 runs. For India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shreyas Iyer took 2 wickets each.
The win puts India 1-0 ahead in the three-match T20 series. The second match will be played on the 26th at Dharamsala.
