Chennai: There is a Mr Gold oil godown near Vanagaram Service Road, Maduravoyal, Chennai. Near it there are various storage godowns including plywood godown and tiles godown. In this case, last night, a fire suddenly broke out in the oil godown. Subsequently, the fire spread to 2 plywood furniture Godown and 6 tiles Godown nearby.
Workers from northern states are staying and working in the godowns here. After the fire broke out, they ran away. No one was injured. Neighbors informed the fire department.
More than 100 firemen in more than 10 fire trucks from various fire stations including Maduravayal, Poontamalli, Virugambakkam, Kilpakkam, Egmore, KK Nagar, Avadi, Ambattur are engaged in extinguishing the fire.
The 3 tanker trucks parked with oil near the oil godown caught fire and the trucks were gutted. The fire engulfed the nearby furniture and tiles and the whole area was engulfed in smoke. As a result, the people living in the area had suffocation and breathing problems.
The police evacuated the people living near the area where the fire broke out. Motorists were suffering due to the smoke and firemen were trying to douse the fire with chemical liquid as it was a challenge to douse the fire in the oil godown.
It is worth noting that since it was night time and there were no employees, fortunately no one was injured or killed. Goods worth crores of rupees were destroyed in this fire. Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire started in the oil godown and later spread to other places. The Maduravayal police are investigating the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, it started raining in Maduravayal, Vanakaram and Borur areas. Especially in the Vanagaram area where the fire broke out, it has started to rain heavily, so progress has been made in the fire fighting work.
