The Supreme Court is hearing a case in which more than 300 cell phones were allegedly spied on in India using Pegasus spy software.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee gave an interview to reporters in Kolkata yesterday.
NSO, the maker of Pegasus software The company approached each state to sell it. 4 or 5 years ago, the West Bengal Police was also approached. Offered to sell the software for Rs.25 crore.
When I came to know this information, I was told that it was not necessary.
It would have been nice if the ‘Pegasus’ software had been used for the security of the country. But the union government that bought it cannot accept that it is being used against judges and officials for political reasons.
Earlier in the day, Mamata Banerjee had said that when the Chandrababu Naidu government was in power in Andhra Pradesh, the government bought Pegasus software. But it was denied by Chandrababu Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh yesterday.
