In November last year, 13 students of a veterinary college located near Vithiri in Wayanad district had symptoms similar to the rare norovirus infection. On getting their samples tested, a girl student was found infected with Norovirus .

How is noro virus spread?

Norovirus can also infect healthy people if they come in direct contact with an infected person.

A person can also become ill by consuming infected food and water. Apart from this, even if a person touches the mouth without washing hands after touching the infected surface, then this virus can go inside and make you sick.

What are its symptoms and treatment?

Vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and bloating, fever, headache and body aches are considered symptoms of norovirus. These symptoms usually appear within 12-48 hours after infection, which persist for 1-3 days.
