Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe has announced today that the cancellation of agricultural loans and reduction of petrol prices will calm the public.

Sri Lanka: Gotabaya Rajapakse resigned from his presidency last week after popular protests broke out again in Sri Lanka.

Ranil Wickramasinghe also had to resign from the post of Prime Minister as many ministers also resigned from their posts.

Following this, Gothapaya has taken refuge in Singapore after appointing Ranil Wickramasinghe as the country’s interim president.

Ranil, who took over as the interim president, was the first to impose a state of emergency in the country. Ranil had announced today that this declaration would be further extended. The state of emergency has been extended due to the presidential election on the 20th (July 20), sources in the presidential palace have said.

Meanwhile, President Ranil Wickremesinghe has released some action announcements today to calm the people of the country who are angry with the government due to the declaration of emergency.

Chief among these, the President has announced the cancellation of agricultural loans for those who own less than two acres of land. He also said that the price of petrol will be reduced. He has announced that the price of petrol will be reduced after the price of crude oil has decreased in the international market.
