Search engine company Google has given a big update to its video calling service Google Meet. Teachers and students will get the benefit of the features provided with this update during online classes.
Educators who have signed up for Google’s Workspace for Education Plus and Teaching and Learning upgrade plans are getting additional features with this update.
Things done in the call will be saved as text
With the new Automatic Transcribe feature, Google will save the conversations during the call as text to a Google Doc file.
The company says that with this feature, users will not have to save the recording of the entire call and it will also take less storage space than before.
Also, it will be easier than ever to share, edit, review or search the lessons taught in a call with students.
Option to stream public events on YouTube
With the new live streaming feature provided to Google Meet for Students, the event can be streamed live directly on YouTube .
Teachers will be able to share any of their classes or other public events directly on YouTube, so that others can be a part of it.
Google says that this feature will be beneficial for school board meetings, school assemblies and other such occasions when the event can be shared with everyone and is not closed.
Meet livestreams limit increased
Google Meet users already get the option to stream meetings and in-organization calls. Now the limit of this feature has been changed.
Earlier with this feature, livestreaming could be done with 500 people involved in an organization. Now this limit has been increased to one lakh, part of which can be made by users belonging to the same workspace.
Meeting participants will be visible in PiP mode
Users are also getting the benefit of picture-in-picture (PiP) mode in Google Meet service.
With the new change, even if a user is giving a presentation or sharing their screen, the faces of up to four meeting participants will still be visible in one part of the screen.
This PiP mode will also work when working with individual tabs and Windows.
Let us tell you, users will get the benefit of the new feature in the Google Chrome browser in the next few weeks.

New polls and Q&A sessions for teachers
Google has come up with polls and Q&A sessions for teachers who use Google Meet to livestream their lessons.
With these new options, teachers will get new opportunities to connect and interact with students.
This feature was already available for standard meetings, but it was not made part of livestreams. The company said that now more users will get the benefit of these polls and Q&A sessions.
