Iran Train derailment death toll rises to 21, Injured 48

At least 17 people have been killed and more than 10 injured in a train derailment in eastern Iran.

Tehran: A passenger train was departing from the Tehran railway station in the Iranian capital for the city of Tabas. At that time, it was about 50 km from the city of Tabas. The train derailed early this morning between the distant cities of Mashad and Yast.

348 people traveled on this train. More than 10 people were killed on the spot. And more than 60 were seriously injured. Rescue workers were immediately called to the scene and the injured were rushed to hospital.

The death toll has now risen to 21, with some more deaths in hospital without treatment. Others injured are being treated.

Initial investigations by the police into the cause of the accident revealed that the train collided with a trench digger parked near the tracks, causing the train to derail. Police are conducting a detailed investigation.
