More than 20 people, including a senior imam, were killed in a powerful blast at an Afghan mosque

More than 20 people, including the senior imam of the mosque, Amir Mohammad Kabuli, were killed in the blast.

Kabul: A powerful explosion has occurred in a mosque in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. The country’s police said that more than 20 people were killed in the blast.

A powerful explosion occurred during the evening prayers in the northern Kabul region of Afghanistan. Amid the extensive damage caused by the blast, more than 20 people including the senior imam of the mosque, Amir Mohammad Kabuli, were killed. More than 40 people were injured and are undergoing treatment. After receiving information about the blast incident, the police rushed to the spot and called an ambulance and intensified the rescue operations.

27 people were taken by ambulance to the nearby Kabul Emergency Hospital where they are receiving intensive care. A Taliban government intelligence official said the death toll could rise due to the intensity of the blast. No terrorist organization has yet claimed responsibility for the blast.

It has been exactly one year since the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan. While the international organizations are saying that the security and rights of the people are under threat under the Taliban regime, a conflict has developed between the Taliban government and the IS organization in the country. Rahimullah Haqqani, a senior Taliban cleric who had voiced radical views against IS, was killed in a suicide attack by IS.

Rahimullah Haqqani has been a vocal supporter of girls going to school and getting an education in the country. He was killed in a suicide attack last week after religious fundamentalist organizations there had already attempted to kill him twice against his stand.
