Beer is made from a mixture of alcohol, water and other ingredients, but a Singapore -based company has launched a beer that is made from recycled toiler waste water.
The name of this beer is ‘NEWBrew’.
This beer is produced by the National Water Agency (PUB) of Singapore and local craft brewery Brewworks. Surprisingly, Singaporeans are buying and drinking this beer with gusto.
NEWBrew to hit the market in 2022
The newbrew was first made public in 2018, but was brought to the market in April 2022. NEWBrew beer uses Newwater, a brand of recycled drinking water from the toilet of Singapore.
This treatment plant was first built in 2003 so that there is no shortage of water in Singapore.
According to PUB, this beer recycling is a way to make people aware of the use of sustainable water.
How is Singapore Newwater made?
Making Newwater in Singapore first uses ultraviolet light to disinfect gutter water, then passes the water through an advanced membrane process to eliminate contaminants.
After that it becomes plain drinking water.
“Newwater is perfect for brewing beer because it tastes like regular water,” said Mitch Gribow, head of Brewerz.
Beer is getting positive reactions from the people
Chiu Wei Lian, 58, said, “I can’t believe it’s made from toilet water. If it’s in the fridge, I don’t mind having it because it tastes like beer and I love beer.” ”
At the same time, 52-year-old Grace Chen said that if people do not tell that it is made from recycled water, then no one will probably even know.
Some people don’t like this beer
Some people don’t like this beer. A student from Singapore named Lo Yu Chen said, “There are many different types of beers in the market. If I wanted a beer, I would go for the one made from plain water.”
There was a protest against making drinking water from gutter water
There was once strong opposition to the idea of using recycled gutter water for drinking water, but it has gained widespread support over the past decade.
This is because the supply of fresh water in the world is decreasing.
Israel has also used this technology for water supply. Cities like London and Los Angeles are also planning to use this technology.
Beer has already been made from gutter water
This isn’t the first time a beer has been made from recycled gutter water. Previously, craft company Stone Brewing launched Stone Full Circle Pale Ale in 2017.
Additionally, another beer maker, Krust Group and Super Loco Group, also produced beer made from recycled gutter water.
