Who is Nadhim Zahawi? How Iraqi man became Britain’s new finance minister

Nadhim Zahawi came to Britain at an early age with his Kurdish family and did not know how to speak English. He built his splendid business in Britain

Nadhim Zahawi: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Tuesday announced the name of the new Finance Minister and Health Secretary. Now UK Cabinet Chief of Staff Steve Barclay has been appointed as the new Health Secretary, while UK Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi has been appointed as the new Finance Minister.

PM Johnson had to take this decision after the resignation of outgoing Finance Minister Rishi Sunak and Health Secretary Sajid Javid.

Know who is Nadhim Zahawi

Education Secretary Nadhim Jahabi was born in Iraq. Downing Street said Jahavi’s appointment had been approved by Queen Elizabeth II.

Nadhim Zahawi came to Britain at an early age with his Kurdish family and did not know how to speak English. He made a lucrative business career in the UK.

Vaccination plan gets credit

According to an AFP report, 55-year-old Zahavi founded the prestigious polling company YouGov and was active in local Conservative politics in London before becoming MP in 2010. Jahavi is also credited with implementing the vaccine plan during the pandemic in Britain.

These reasons have been discussed

Interestingly, like Rishi Sunak, Jahavi’s personal wealth has been discussed for negative reasons, including a 2013 claim of heating a horse stable with parliamentary expenses.

Britain’s PM has appointed another trusted friend Michael Donlan as education minister in place of Jahavi.

Finance Minister Rishi Sunak and Health Secretary Sajid Javid tendered their resignations on 5 July. This resignation of both of them has come at a time when opposition against Prime Minister Boris Johnson is increasing in his own party.

The resignation of both could prove to be another setback for Johnson. British Finance Minister Rishi Sunak is of Indian origin and he is the son-in-law of Infosys co-founder N Narayana Murthy. While Sajid Javid is of Pakistani origin.
