China: A man who burned his ex-wife to death during a live stream in southwestern China’s Sichuan province has been sentenced to death by court order.
The gruesome killing in September 2020 sparked outrage across the country. Tang Lu, who was found guilty by the Supreme People’s Court and was sentenced to death in October 2021 for the premeditated murder, was executed on Saturday.
In a short statement released by the Intermediate People’s Court of Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, the crime was extremely heinous and Tang Lu deserved the most severe punishment.
Lu and his wife Lamu separated in June 2020 after eleven years together. Both have been popular on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok.
According to the court report, Lu did not want a divorce and tried several times to get back together, but Lamu rejected the idea.
