New Delhi: A day after Sri Lankan Fromer Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa resigned from his post on Monday (May 9, 2022), it has been reported that he fled to India with his family.
The Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka on Tuesday (May 10, 2022) denied local social media speculation that a powerful Mahinda Rajapaksa family patriot had fled to India, calling it a “fake and blatant lie”.
The Indian High Commission has noticed rumors circulating in the media and social media that some Sri Lankan politicians and their families have fled to India.
These are fake and completely untrue news. None of these are true Edehu. The Indian High Commission denies the allegations, “said a statement issued by the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka.
The Prime Minister of Sri Lanka has resigned amid unprecedented economic unrest in Sri Lankan history. Supporters of the prime minister attacked protesters as they marched against the government. As it erupted into a major controversy, Mahinda Rajapakse resigned as prime minister.
High Commission has recently noticed rumours circulating in sections of media & social media that certain political persons and their families have fled to India.

It is rumored that Mahinda Rajapaksa has gone to India without knowing his whereabouts since his resignation.

Prime Minister Rajapakse, who had previously resigned, left his office and official residence in the early hours of Tuesday.
He is also reported to have taken refuge in a naval base in the eastern port district of Trincomalee.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s top civil aviation official on Tuesday dismissed speculation on social media and confirmed that he was not involved in “illegal traffic and removal of any person or persons from Sri Lanka”.

For the past three months, protesters have been protesting in Sri Lanka demanding the removal of the government. Protesters said there was no limit to the corruption committed by former Prime Minister Rajapaksa’s government.
Protesters have blamed the Rajapaksa brothers’ misguided policies for inflation, unemployment and starvation in Sri Lanka. A curfew is currently in effect in Sri Lanka.
But the protesters are determined to continue the struggles. With the resignation of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse, the struggle continues with the demand for the resignation of his brother and Sri Lankan superintendent Gotabhaya Rajapakse.
